Annapolis 24th Apl 1777 —
[Extract]
Sir
Immediately on my Receipt of your Letter of the 12th of March; I laid it before the General Assembly . . .
I join in Sentiments with you, as to the Utility of stationing Callies on the Eastern Shore; some of ours are designed for that Service, but our utmost Efforts have not yet been effectual to get any one completely fitted. ー We have three in the Water, partly manned, and three others ready, or very nearly ready to launch, but have not been able, as yet, to get a Sufficiency of Cordage or Hands for the first three. ー The fitting out of the Callies, is an Object of the first Attention with us, will be prosecuted as such, and as soon as any of them are fit, they will be ordered below, where we shall be glad to hear some of yours are ready to act in Concert with them. . . .
