[Extract]
Usually we write one letter per month with the Paquet Boat, and enclose a short extract of your report: so meanwhile I will do the same with your mail, particularly the accounts of the Unit2 . . . we have done likewise with our balance of accounts, since in this critical time not much else is advisable, expecially since it is well known that here as well as in England, letters are opened, and therefore most of the captains that still put out from England refuse to take along letters, let alone packages, in order to be in no way exposed; our last letters, which contained little more than the Weeklies, came with the August Paquet from England.
