[Charleston] Saturday, July 15, 1775
In the Council of Safety
Mr. [William] Williamson, from the Committee appointed to confer with Capt. [Clement] Lempriere, reported and recommended That two such pilot-boats should be procured as should meet with the approbation of Capt. Lempriere.
That they be manned with eight stout able men each. That £1,000 in hard money be sent to purchase gun-powder, in case a disappointment should happen at P.2 That the direction and management of the whole be left to Capt. Lempriere. And that two hundred dollars be offered to the boats crew as a reward if they succeed.
And the said report being read, was agreed to by the Council.
