I have to acquaint you that last Monday [January 22] a new cedar built rig, inward bound from the West-Indies, loaden with 3000 bushels of salt, belonging to Mr.Christian, of Northampton county, Eastern shore, was chased into Cherrystone harbour by a sloop tender; the Captain seeing that he could not escape the tender, ran the brig ashore, and took to his boat and gained the shore; the tender boarded her and was two days endeavouring to get her off, but proving unsuccessful, they set her on fire and burned her. The brig was not within musket shot of the shore, else the men stationed on that coast might have prevented their boarding her. ー
