28th [June].—Got out of the Delaware and stood for New York. In our passage there, spoke a packet express1 to the admiral,2 who informed us that a French fleet were sailed, and that she had been chased by them more than halfway to this country, and by the course they were steering there was no doubt but that they were bound for the continent of North America.3
