Cape Codd So 85 Wt distce 44 Leagues At 3 AM made sail. ー sounded 140 fathms green mud. ー at 8 saw a sail bearing EbN ½ N 3 Leagues. ー made sail & gave Chace. ー First Light airs & Hazy, Middle & Latter Fresh Breezes & thick foggy Wr PM sounded 45 fms sand & mud-at½ past I set steering sails. ー sent the Cutters manned &arm'd after a Schooner. At 5 the boats returned with the Sally from St Luice for Salem sent a Midshipman & 5 men on board to carry her to Halifax ー hoisted the boats in & made sail. ー parted Co with the Schooner. ー streatched away to the NWbW after a French Schooner of which we had intelligence. ー
