At a meeting of the Governor and Council of Safetyholden at Hartford in and for the State of Connecticut on the 23d day ofJanuary, A.D. 1778.
Voted, That the Committee of Pay-Table be and they are hereby directed to draw on the Treasurer in favour of Saml Eliott junr, Esqr, for the sum of one thousand pounds, money, to be in account as agent of this State. The order to be delivered to Mr. John Wasson, clerk of the ship Defence.
Voted, That the Committee of Pay-Table be and they are hereby directed to draw on the Treasurer in favour of Saml Smedley, captain of the ship Defence, for the sum of four hundred pounds, money, to be in account. Said order to be delivered to Mr. John Wasson, clerk of said ship.
Voted, That the Committee of Pay-Table be and they are hereby directed to draw on the Treasurer in favour of Colo. Noah Phelps for the sum of one hundred and sixty pounds, money, to be in account and to enable him to transport a num- ber of cannon from Salisbury to Boston for the use of the ship Defence, which he is appointed to do. ...
