I did myself the honour of writing to your Lordship on the 25th. past: Since which his majesty's expected ship Pelican captain Goodall, is arrived in this river.
The intended convoy by the Egmont has been diverted, by intelligence re- ceived of two rebel privateers cruizing off the island of Madeira: in pursuit of whom, captain Elphinstone1 sailed from hence on the first instant: previous to his departure, he acquainted me with his expectation of returning from that service in about ten days; and of then convoying such British vessels as may be ready to sail for Great Britain.
I have the honour of directing under your Lordship's cover a packet for the board of Admiralty; containing several denials of Mediterranean passes; and a letter from captain Elphinstone. I am [&.]
