Dr Sir:
When Capt Kelly was down my Sloop lay at Such a Distance that we could not go to her as they ware in Such a hurrey but I Promised to Send up her Dementions he heard her Carector of being the fastest Saylor in this place ー her standing Riging in Good order Sales & Runing Riging Very Indiferent ー 46 feet Long on Deck. 14½ feet Beem 6 foot Hole ー I Consider her Sales & Riging as not her worth to the Provance except her Standing riging & Should not have mention[e]d her only for her fast Saleing ー I gave One hundred & fifty pounds for [her] Last yeare & if Better to Answer the Porpose Cannot be got, I am Willing to take the Same, for her now ー
this Comes by a french Gentl[eman] who I have had at my house and Sent him part of the way to Annapolis he has Papers which will Shoe he is Des[i]rous to Enter in to our Sarvice in Defence of Liberty, and from his expearence hope he will be Sarvicable. You will plese Lay this before your Brurthen and Obl[ige] sir [&c.]
