So soon as the number of Men on board the ship you command shall be completed to 500 for which we have given directions to Vice Admiral Amherst; you are hereby required and directed to put to sea with the first opportunity of wind & weather, and proceed and cruize between the Latitudes of 46° and 47°, 30 Leagues to the Westward of the Penmarks point, for the protection of the Trade of His Majesty's Subjects, and diligently to look out for, and upon falling in with, to endeavour to take or destroy, any Privateirs or other Ships or Vessels belonging to the Rebellious Colonies of North America.
You are to continue on the above Station for one month after your arrival thereupon, and then make the best of your way back to Plymouth, and remain there until you receive further order; sending Us an account of your Arriv~l & proceedings. Given &c the 1st February 1777.
