at 10 AM spoke with Chace a Schooner from St Domingo bound to Boston 2 sent a Petty Officer & 3 Men on board her & took out the Master & five Men
1. PRO, Admiralty 51/546.
2. The schooner was the Tartar, Benjamin Warren, master, and William Prosser, owner. She was not bound to Boston, but to Halifax and Newfoundland, with a cargo of sugar, coffee, cocoa and molasses. The seizure probably occurred because the Boston garrison needed food, or her destination was suspected to be a rebel port, despite her papers.
