At a Court Martial held on board the frigate Washington, in the port of Philadelphia, June 10, 1777, for the trial of William Whitpaine, master of the Continental sloop lndependance, for deserting from the said sloop, and taking away the boat of her prize, in direct breach of orders, the court were unanimously of opinion, that the said William Whitpaine be cashiered, and rendered incapable of bearing a commission or warrant in the Continental navy in future.
