The Petition of Peter January & Coy
Humbly Sheweth
That Whereas the said Peter January & Coy have fitted a Vessel1 for the purpose of Cruizing against the Enemies of the United States of America and cannot by any Means whatever furnish themselves with Gun Powder,
We therefore pray Your Excellency would Order for us two quarter Casks of Gun Powder2—
January & Coy.

1. Probably Schooner Fly, Capt. Micajah Smith, for which Peter January applied for a letter of marque on 31 July 1778. Fly carried three guns. DNA, PCC, item 196, vol. 5, p. 55 (M247, roll 203).
2. It is not known if the Pennsylvania Executive Council provided the gunpowder.
