I Lieutenant Thomas Simpson of the American Navy—now under Suspension and Arrest for disobedience of Written Orders from Captain John Paul Jones—do hereby promise on my Parole of Honor that being at my particular request released from my present Arrest—I will consider myself as under Suspension Until I am called upon to meet Captain Jones Face to Face before a Court Martial—Unless Captain Jones should in the meantime release me also from this my Parole.1
