Do [Lighthouse off Sandy Hook] No 43 Wt 31 Lgs AM saw a sail standing towards us, made sail twds her, ½ past 8 found her, to be, a sloop from Hambourrgh, with Bale Goods, belonging to New York.2 Sent the Cutter on board her, took the people out of her, and sent a midshipman, and 4 men to take Charge of her, hoisted the Boat in, and wore Ship Light airs and fair at 2 PM saw a fleet gave Chace, found them to be 4 Sail of Transports under Convoy of His Majestys Ship Niger ー at 7 parted Co with the above ー ½ past 9 gave Chace to 3 Sail found them to be His Majestys ships Senegal / one Transport and a French Brig. Wore Ship and made sail.
