Thursday, June 22d [1775], ー Capt. Jabez Cobb arrives from Machias and reports a disturbance. The inhabitants took one of the King's ships,2 killed the captain, and one Robert Avery, of Norwich, being forced to stand the deck, on board of her, was killed by a ball in the head.

Saturday, Sept. 30th [1775]. [Robert] Ambrose arrives from Halifax. He has news that the Admiral orders ships at Halifax to take, burn, sink and destroy all cities, towns, vessels, and boats belonging to the Continent, except Quebec and Nova Scotia. A number of vessels have been taken to Halifax.

Sunday, Dec. 10th, ー Capt. Benajah Collings arrived last evening from Cape Nichola Mole, he fell as far eastward as Isle Savel [Sable Island], and was in at Canso. He there heard that two armed schooners had been in there and taken several vessels that were New England property, and had been at Island St. John's and took Mr. Higgins in a schooner from England, and carried them off.
