I received intelligence last night, that the Toulon Squadron arrived on the Virginia Coast the 5 Instt. It was attended by one of our small Cruizers1 until the next morning, and I have no doubt arrived in Chesepeak Bay yesterday, tho' further information may be very soon expected from the Cruizers, upon this point.
This Event involves other considerations for the rule of my Conduct, which I shall mention when I have next the honor of seeing you.2 I am with great Esteem & regard Sir [&c.]
