Gentlemen
I was informed a few days since that all the Ships at Quebec, were laid up and their Guns taken out of Which I advised Genl Montgomery, since Which I find my Information was Premature, I am now informed (by some of my Officers who have seen) that a large Snow suposed to be Napier, the Hunter Frigate & 2 Small Schooners, came up from Quebec this morning & now Lie at Cap rouge, I suppose with a design to Interupt Our Vessels or Battoes expected from Montreal, it is probable they will Proceed higher up Next Tide of which I have thought P[roper to give you notice] By Express & Advise your Sending Three or Four Boats ahead at a Proper Distance to give you Timely Notice of their Approach. I am Gentlemen [&c.]
