I am happy in this opportunity of acknowlidging the grate obligations I J)We to Mr. [Joseph] Hewes — by Addressing my prize the Brigantine Active to You — I have seen and do esteem Yourself — but I knew your Brother James well when I was myself a Son of Fortune. — You will perhaps hear from me agin in a short time — Meanwhile you may promulgate that I have taken the last Transport — with Cloathing for Canada — no other will come out this Season and all that have been Sent before are taken. — this will make Burgoyne "Shake a Cloth in the wind" and check his progress on the Lakes. (I have taken a private Adventure of Captn Foxe's 2 (in slops) for the use of my Seamen — and should he be allowed his private Trade you will please to give him any Credit he may Occassionally want under Fifty Pounds Sterling 'till I write you more particularly on the Subject) I have the honor to he with much Esteem Sir [&c.]
