at 12 [midnight] Weighd & made sail in Co a Numr of flat Boats at 2 AM past Popasquash point, at day light the Rebels fir’d sevl Shot at us from Popasquash & their Alarm Guns at Warwick Neck, saw the flat Boats near Warren, at 8 it falling little Wind, & Tide done, dropt the sml Bower, run out the Kedge & began to warp towds. the Boats, saw a Numr of houses on fire & a gt Explosion at Warren, at 10 saw a red Flag on Shore & our Troops marchg towards Bristol, ansd it & made Sail to the So.wd. in Co. the flat Boats at ½ pt 11 saw several houses & a Church at Bristol on Fire
[off Popasquash Point and Hog I.] Modt Winds & fair Wr. PM at 1 saw our Troops in possession of ye Batteries on Bristol Ferry, at 2 came too wt the sml Bower, Veer’d ⅓ Cable wt a spring on it to cover the Embarkation of the Troops, at 3 they embarked, the Rebels then fired sevl Shot from the Heights wch past thro our sails, the Channel being very narrow run out the Kedge, Weighd the Bower, slipt the Kedge & one hawser, made sail at 4 came too wt the sml Bower of[f] Providence2 in 11 fm. water, during this Transaction the Venus3 advanced to our Station—
