Norwich [Conn.] May 30th: 1778
These may certify all whom it may concern that Justin Jennings entered on Board the Brig Defence belonging to the State of Connecticut under my Command on or about ye first of March 1776 to Serve as my Clark for ye Space of one Year from that date, in which Station he served till on or about the 16th. of June following when he met with the misfortune to be wound’d in one of his Legs in Action in Boston Bay1 that Occationed the cuting of it off.2
