In pursuance to Capt: Wrights1 orders, of the 19th, Instan; directing me to proced with the Troops under the Command of Capt: Wollfe,2 towards St: Marys—we arrived at Joh: Thomasses, at South End of Amellia the 19th: Capt: Wollfe sent off two Spies to the North End of the Island, who informed that two, of the Galleys ware lying at the South End of Cumberland, & that they saw Sentinells on the Tiger Islands.3 Capt: Wollfe having received two Expresses ordering him Back which he communicated to me, I informed him that I was orderd to go, on; as Capt: Wright said he would Send the Dreadnought & Germain into St: Marys & that the Intricassey of the Inland Navigation would make it very tedious for me, to go thro' to cooperate with the Brig, & Ship,4 Should they Get out, & I return,- we agreed to take Post on the North End of Tallbut Island,5 till I had Particular instruction how to Act, and Sent Yesterday to the North end of Amelia one Clubb to reconoiter, he returned at 3 in afternoon Noon having ....6 Three of Galleys, one at the Point of Cumberland, a nother half way betwen the two Islands & the Third abrest of the Watering Place-Capt: Wright sent his Boat as they did not know the Barr they could not get in thro' the Breakers, my having received your favour of the 20th: instant I Returned Instantly with the Troops,7 last Night two of Mr: Dameses best men, & Old standers with me Deserted to St: Augustine,- Richd: Tayne Boatswain of the Dreadnought Thos: Smith, & Wm: Bolten belonging to the Germian—if its aGreable to you Ill send Mr: Dames to town, after the Dissarters having no certenty of any Person in Augustine taking the least Trouble in looking for them, inclosed is a list of their Names,8 I am Sir [&c]
