Early this morning chased & retook1 a Brig (the John & Rebecca)2 bound to Boston, laden with medicines, Cremer Tartar, Currans, &c. She had been taken about the middle of June off the Bay of Biscay by the Boston Rebel Frigate,* commanded by one [Samuel] Tucker, wch Vessel was chased by the Apollo, when she sailed out of Boston, for two Days; but escaped in a Fog.3 The noted John Adams was then on board bound to France. The Boston had also taken the Martha, another Merchant Vessel.4 The Brig we retook was from the Streights for London.5
In the afternoon spoke a Dutch Vessel, from Eustatia to Amsterdam.
*This Frigate uses poisoned musket Balls, some of which we took with the Prize-master,6 put into this Vessel.
